Artist’s statement
Darkness makes the world difficult to recognize. It can also awaken fear of what we cannot see and a desire to search for light. To me, light is more than illumination: it carries the possibility of hope and salvation. My work begins as daylight fades and familiar places become uncertain.
In spaces where no light source is visible, I imagine an unexpected beam of light. I then give that imagined light a physical presence through deliberate actions and record the encounter with a camera. The search for a place and a moment becomes part of my search for truth as a photographer. By illuminating selected parts of a space, I explore the meanings of light beyond imagination or simple representation.
These photographs express a belief in realities that are not immediately visible. I want to show that an action can be recorded and remembered, and that photography can preserve something that might otherwise remain unseen. For me, the medium has the capacity to bring questions of truth into view and give them lasting form.
The work brings together an imagined scene, an action performed in a real place, and a photographic record. What begins as an unreal possibility becomes a physical event and then an image that viewers encounter as evidence. Through this movement between imagination and reality, I ask how a photograph can produce meaning from an event the photographer has helped bring into being.
